“When we least expect it, life sets us a challenge to test our courage and willingness to change; at such a moment, there is no point in pretending that nothing has happened or in saying that we are not yet ready. The challenge will not wait. Life does not look back. A week is more than enough time for us to decide whether or not to accept our destiny.”
I’m a big fan of beginnings – I love new starts, new blank pages and new stories that fill the empty pages that make up our life. I love making new plans, fulfilling new dreams, making new promises and accepting new challenges. One of the challenges that I kept postponing for years was to create my own blog.
What made me finally decide to create one and even more so, how did I get the idea to start Xpatgirls.com?
Well, from the simple idea that in order to visit all my family and friends and to spend more time with them, I need to either double the number of hours in a day or spend one month on a plane (with flight connections on almost each continent) and or to win the lottery because I would spending the whole time visiting them instead of working.
Although I moved to Israel years ago, I have been able to build myself a completely new life here and even with my Israeli citizenship, I still feel like an expat. When my sister and my two best friends decided to move abroad, it was then that this idea of living abroad, started to sneak into my mind. So, I took this opportunity and asked them to share their stories and life experiences with all of us so I can keep up with them.
Therefore, you must be wondering what you are going to find on this blog?
Our opinions, suggestions, impressions of how it is to live in a different country, how it is to start from the beginning in a new place, how to get used to a totally different mentality of people you don’t know and how we try to know and understand them better; how it is to feel alone although you are surrounded by thousands of people and to feel small in a big city that wants to suck you in; how it is to discover new places and to judge them from your own perspective and own upbringing; how it is to join in on new traditions and holidays and to feel joy the way a little kid in a candy store does; how it is to miss your food from home but at the same time to enjoy the local foods even more so than the local; how it is to discover new things and to judge them through the eyes of an outsider; how it just stop on the street and admire the masses of people passing by.
And at last, but certainly not at least, how it feels to think that you have failed and have wanted to quit, to want to pack-up and leave everything and to go back home but then to stop, stand up and to start from the beginning as a winner – not to give up but to go on and to give yourself another chance…
I strongly believe that in life you have many chances and opportunities until in order to make the best life you can for your-self. The secret lays in how to take advantages of all the chances you are given. So take all the opportunities you can and give them all your best shot! Because the real question is then, if not now, then when?
